- Main Square and the Matthias Corvinus Monument – Cluj-Napoca’s grand stage, crowned by the equestrian statue of Matthias Rex: the warrior-king who seized Vienna and large parts of Austria, took control in the Bohemian lands (Moravia and Silesia), and fought relentlessly on the southern frontier, holding back Ottoman expansion toward Central Europe while securing key strongholds in Bosnia.

- Nature + iconic “must-sees” close to Cluj
• Turda salt mine – A spectacular underground salt-mine complex combining history and modern visitor experiences. In the Rudolf Mine, the main chamber is documented at approximately 80 m long, 50 m wide, and 42 m deep, and you descend via 172 steps.
• Cheile Turzii (Tordai-hasadék) – One of the region’s best-known limestone gorges: about 2.9 km long, with rock walls reaching up to ~300 m, and a protected area of around 324 hectares.
• Rimetea (Torockó) – A heritage village recognized for its traditional architecture (including Europa Nostra recognition) and its famous “double sunrise” effect—caused by the position of the settlement below the cliffs of Piatra Secuiului (Székelykő). Rimetea lies at around 650 m altitude.

Known as the “Versailles of Transylvania,” with historical gardens/parkland concepts linked to 18th-century landscaping ambitions inspired by major European models. - Gherla (Szamosújvár) – Holy Trinity Cathedral – A major Armenian-Catholic landmark built in Baroque style between 1748 and 1776, and renowned for housing a Rubens painting (The Deposition of Christ from the Cross) gifted from the imperial collection.
- Sic (Szék) – A strong ethnographic destination where local dance and folk traditions remain visible. The Sic Dance Museum is noted for exhibiting a collection of 460 pairs of traditional dance boots.
- Bonțida (Bonchida) – Bánffy Castle Ruins
To the West
- Kalotaszeg architecture + painted ceilings + traditional interiors
- Mănăstireni (Magyargyerőmonostor) – One of the region’s standout churches and a strong introduction to Kalotaszeg built heritage.
- Călata (Körösfő) – Known for local crafts and embroidery culture (market visits depend on timing).
- Huedin (Bánffyhunyad) – Reformed (Hungarian Calvinist) Church Recognized locally as one of the most impressive medieval places of worship in the Călata/Kalotaszeg region (historic monument listing).
- Văleni (Magyarvalkó) and Viștea (Magyarvista) – Smaller-scale church heritage and traditional interior experiences (including traditional “clean room” visits when available).
